According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, hurricanes produce winds, storm surge flooding, and heavy rainfall that can lead to inland flooding, tornadoes, and rip currents. Many people know about these impacts during a hurricane but do not know about the impact hurricanes have on the ocean and ocean marine life. The Ocean Conservancy notes:

• The damage from land can increase the pollution in the ocean

• Heavy rains can cause salinity and oxygen levels for the ocean

• Large waves stir up the ocean floor damaging habits like coral reefs
